Do you have a quote for Daikin and a second, cheaper one for another brand? A cheaper quote may be good, but it may also cover less. We work exclusively with Daikin equipment, so we are not impartial. Even so, you can use the following steps for any quotes.
1. Compare the same output
With a heat pump, the figure in the model name is not enough. Ask what output the unit delivers at the lowest temperature the design allows for, and what the design is based on. It should be based on the heat loss of the house, not only on its floor area. Read more in the article What heat pump output do I need?.
2. Compare efficiency under the same conditions
Compare the figures from the manufacturer’s documentation for the same water temperature and the same climate zone. In a house with radiators, what matters is the water temperature the unit can reach and how efficient it is at that temperature. With air conditioning, compare the seasonal values explained in the article Air conditioner energy class: what SEER and SCOP mean.
3. Check the noise and position
Compare the noise of the outdoor unit at the same distance and in the same mode. With close neighbours, the position of the unit also matters.
4. Check what the installation price includes
- the length of the pipework and the price of each extra metre,
- the bracket or base for the outdoor unit,
- the electrical connection and openings through walls,
- the connection to the heating and hot water,
- removal of the old equipment,
- commissioning and setting up the controls.
5. Ask about warranty and service
Find out what the warranty covers, what its conditions are, who will install and service the equipment and how quickly spare parts are available. Have this stated in the quote.
6. Check the subsidy
If you are counting on the contribution, the equipment must be on the list of eligible equipment and the installer must be professionally qualified. You will find the conditions on the Subsidies page.
Why we work with one brand
We know Daikin equipment and can design, install and service it. Installation is carried out by our own technicians. We have completed approximately 150 heat pump installations and approximately 1,500 air conditioner installations. See Daikin heat pumps and multi-split for a house.
Frequently asked questions
Is more expensive equipment always better?
