Answers to the questions our customers ask most often – about choosing, installing, servicing and cleaning air conditioners, and about heat pumps. You can filter the questions by category or search for a word.

How do I choose the right air conditioner for a flat?

The decision depends on the size and orientation of the room, whether you want cooling only or heating as well, how quiet the unit needs to be and where the outdoor unit can go. Flats most often use wall-mounted air conditioners, or a multi-split system for several rooms. We are happy to advise you – see our Daikin Air Conditioners page.

What output does my air conditioner need?

The required output depends mainly on the floor area and ceiling height, the size and orientation of the windows, insulation, and the number of people and appliances. Floor area alone is not enough – two rooms of the same size may need different outputs. We will recommend the right output once we know the conditions on site.

How much does a Daikin air conditioner cost?

The price depends on the model and output, the number of indoor units and how demanding the installation is – for example the length of the pipe run, the height at which the outdoor unit is mounted or whether openings through walls are needed. That is why we prepare tailored quotes. You will find indicative installation prices in the price list. Request a free quote.

Is installation included in the price of the air conditioner?

It depends on the specific quote. Our quotes always clearly list the price of the unit, the installation and the installation materials, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

How long does air conditioner installation take?

Installing a single wall-mounted air conditioner under standard conditions can usually be done within one day. Multi-split systems, longer pipe runs or difficult access to the outdoor unit may take longer. We will give you an exact estimate when preparing the quote.

Where is the outdoor unit installed?

Most often on the facade, a balcony, a terrace or on the ground next to the house. It needs enough space for airflow, must be accessible for servicing and should disturb the surroundings as little as possible. In apartment buildings, approval from the building manager or owners’ association may be required.

How often should an air conditioner be serviced?

For normal household use, a professional service is usually recommended once a year, ideally before the summer season. With year-round use or in dusty environments it may be needed more often. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations in the user manual as well. More on our Air Conditioning Service page.

When is the best time to book an air conditioning service?

Ideally in spring, before the summer season, when there is more time available for servicing. Also book a service if your air conditioner cools poorly, drips water, shows an error code or makes unusual noises.

How often does an air conditioner need cleaning?

Clean the indoor unit filters regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions. A thorough professional cleaning with disinfection is usually recommended once a year for normal use. With frequent use, in kitchens or in homes with pets, it may be needed more often.

Why does my air conditioner smell?

The most common cause is dirt on the filters, heat exchanger and fan of the indoor unit combined with the moisture that forms during cooling. Professional cleaning and disinfection will help. If the smell persists, there may be a problem with the condensate drain, which we will check during a service.

What should I do if my air conditioner is not cooling?

First check the mode and set temperature on the remote control, the cleanliness of the filters and whether the outdoor unit is covered. If that does not help, or an error code appears on the display, give us a call. Please note down the code – it helps with diagnosis.

Can an air conditioner also heat?

Yes, Daikin air conditioners can heat as well as cool. Whether it makes sense to use them as the main source of heat in winter depends on the model, the house and your requirements – we are happy to go through it with you.

What is the difference between an air conditioner and a heat pump?

Both work on a similar principle – they transfer heat between the outdoor and indoor environment. An air conditioner (air-to-air system) heats or cools the air in the room directly. An air-to-water heat pump heats water for the heating system (underfloor heating, radiators) and hot water for the bathroom and kitchen. Read more on our blog.

Can a heat pump also cool?

Some heat pumps can. It depends on the type of unit and the heating system – cooling is possible, for example, through underfloor systems or fan coil units designed for it. With standard radiators, cooling is generally not used.

Is an air-source heat pump worth it?

It depends on the house. The key factors are insulation, the type of heating system, hot water consumption and what you currently heat with. We do not quote general savings percentages – we assess the benefits for your specific house.

Is a heat pump suitable for an older house with radiators?

Often yes, but it requires the right design. For radiators that need a higher water temperature, high-temperature heat pump variants are used. The insulation of the house also matters. We will assess whether it is a suitable solution in your case.

Which areas do you cover?

We operate in the Bratislava Region – in Bratislava and the surrounding area, for example Stupava, Malacky, Pezinok, Senec, Modra, Svätý Jur, Bernolákovo, Ivanka pri Dunaji, Záhorská Bystrica and Chorvátsky Grob. If you are not sure whether we can come to you, just write to us.

How can I request a quote?

The easiest way is to use our contact form. Tell us what kind of space it is, whether you want cooling or heating as well, and where you are located. You can also give us a call. We will get back to you and agree on the next steps.

How much electricity does an air conditioner use?

Consumption depends mainly on the efficiency of the unit (SEER for cooling, SCOP for heating), how much heat it has to remove from the room and the set temperature. You will find the indicative annual consumption on the energy label. For tips on lower consumption, see the article How much electricity does an air conditioner use.

Is an air conditioner noisy?

Modern inverter air conditioners are very quiet at low speeds. The manufacturer states the noise level of the indoor unit in dB(A) in the technical data sheets. For a bedroom, choose a model with low noise and a night mode, and do not place the outdoor unit under bedroom windows. Read more in the article A quiet air conditioner for the bedroom.

What temperature should I set on the air conditioner in summer?

For cooling, approximately 24 to 26 °C is often recommended, with not too great a difference from the outdoor temperature. At night, a slightly higher temperature and night mode work well. Read more in the article The ideal air conditioner temperature.

How long does an air conditioner last?

Service life depends on the quality of the unit, professional installation, correct output and regular maintenance. Can an air conditioner be controlled by mobile phone?

Yes, if the air conditioner has Wi‑Fi built in or via a Wi‑Fi module. Selected Daikin models are controlled through an app – you can switch them on remotely and set the temperature and a weekly schedule. Read more in the article Air conditioning with Wi‑Fi.

What does the energy class of an air conditioner mean?

The energy class is based on the seasonal efficiency SEER (cooling) and SCOP (heating). The higher the values, the less electricity the unit uses for the same output. Compare models with similar output. Read more in the article Air conditioner energy class.

Can an air conditioner be installed in winter?

Yes. Installation is carried out all year round; we only adjust the date in extreme weather. The advantage is more available dates, and you can use the air conditioner for heating straight away. Read more in the article Installing an air conditioner in winter.

Do I need the owners’ association’s consent for an air conditioner in a flat?

If the outdoor unit is to be placed on the facade or another common part of the building, the consent of the building manager or owners’ association is usually required. Rules vary between buildings, so ask in advance. We will gladly prepare documents about the unit for you. Read more in the article Consent to install an air conditioner in an apartment building.

Is an air conditioner suitable for a child’s room?

Yes, if it is correctly positioned, moderately set and regularly cleaned. The airflow should not point at the bed, and a quiet model with a night mode is a good choice. Read more in the article Air conditioning in a child’s room.

Where should the indoor unit of an air conditioner go?

High on the wall with free space in front of the unit, away from heat sources and so that the airflow does not point directly at a bed or desk. A short route to the outdoor unit and a way to drain condensate also matter. Read more in the article Where to place an air conditioner.

What is the difference between split and multi-split air conditioning?

A split system has one indoor and one outdoor unit. A multi-split system connects several indoor units to one outdoor unit – there are fewer units on the facade, but if the outdoor unit fails, none of the rooms work. Read more in the article Split or multi-split.

What heat pump output do I need?

The output is determined by the heat loss of the house, not by its floor area. A project or energy performance certificate, information about insulation, the type of heating and hot water consumption all help. Read more in the article What heat pump output do I need.

Can I get a subsidy for a heat pump?

Households can use the Zelená domácnostiam programme, managed by SIEA. The conditions, the amount of the contribution and the dates change – you will find current information at zelenadomacnostiam.sk. Read more in the article Heat pump subsidy.

How noisy is a heat pump?

Noise comes mainly from the outdoor unit and depends on the model, the current output and the location. Do not place the unit under bedroom windows or in narrow spaces where the sound reflects. Read more in the article Heat pump noise.

What should I do if a heat pump fails?

Note down the error code, check the circuit breaker and whether the outdoor unit is blocked by snow or objects. Do not interfere with the refrigerant circuit, and contact a service technician. Read more in the article Heat pump service.

Does a heat pump work in severe frost?

Yes, an air-to-water heat pump heats even in frost. However, its output and efficiency fall as the temperature drops, so the design has to allow for this. The manufacturer states the operating temperature range for each model. Read more in the article Does a heat pump work in frost?

Do I have to change my radiators when replacing a boiler?

Not always. It depends on the water temperature the house needs. It is often enough to replace a few of the smallest radiators or choose a high-temperature unit. Only an assessment of the house gives the answer. Read more in the article Replacing a gas boiler with a heat pump.

Who handles the subsidy application?

The registration and application are primarily made by the household, and by the installer only with an officially certified power of attorney. We prepare the design, check that the equipment is on the list of eligible equipment and supply the invoice and documents needed for the application. Conditions change, so see the current status on the Subsidies page.

How many years does a heat pump take to pay back?

There is no single figure that applies to every house. It depends on the price of the equipment, the subsidy, your current heating, heat loss and energy prices. When replacing a gas boiler, the payback can be long. We explain how to calculate it in the article Heat pump payback.

Do I need underfloor heating for a heat pump?

No. Underfloor heating is an advantage because a lower water temperature is enough, but a heat pump can also be designed for radiators. You need to check what water temperature the house needs in frost. Read more in the article A heat pump for an old house with radiators.

What is the difference between a monobloc and a split?

With a monobloc, water pipes run into the house, so protection against freezing must be considered. With a split, refrigerant pipes run between the units, and only persons with the relevant certificate may work on them. Read more in the article Monobloc or split heat pump.

Do I need a buffer tank?

It depends on the model and the heating system. Some systems require one, others work without it. What matters is the manufacturer’s requirement and whether the tank solves a specific problem in the system. Read more in the article A buffer tank for a heat pump.

Can I keep my gas boiler with a heat pump?

Yes, the boiler can stay as a backup source. This makes sense mainly in older houses with a higher heat demand. The downsides are the costs of maintaining the boiler and the gas connection. Read more in the article A heat pump and a backup heat source.

How long does heat pump installation take?

It depends on the scope of work. Replacing a boiler in a house with existing pipework is different from a complete installation in a new build. We agree the date and scope in advance. The article Air-to-water heat pump installation describes the process.

What do you need to prepare a heat pump quote?

The project or energy performance certificate, the type of heating, previous energy consumption, the number of people in the household and photos of the boiler room and the place for the outdoor unit all help. If you do not have something, tell us what you know. Request a quote.

How often does a heat pump need servicing?

The manufacturer sets the interval. In normal operation, an inspection is usually carried out once a year, ideally before the heating season. The warranty may be tied to regular servicing. Read more in the article Heat pump servicing.

Can a heat pump be combined with photovoltaics?
