Air conditioning for offices and businesses: what to consider

Illustration for the article: Air conditioning for offices and businesses: what to consider

An office or business has different requirements from a household. The air conditioning runs for longer, there are more people and more equipment in the space, and even air distribution matters so that nobody has air blowing straight onto their desk.

What is specific about offices

  • Higher heat load – computers, monitors, printers and more people in one place.
  • All-day operation – the unit runs for many hours a day, so efficiency is worth attention.
  • Employee comfort – airflow should not be directed straight at workstations.
  • Different rooms – a meeting room, open-plan office and server room have different needs.

Suitable unit types

  • Cassette – in a suspended ceiling, distributing air in four directions; common in offices with a grid ceiling.
  • Ducted – completely hidden, with air running through ducts to several rooms.
  • Floor-standing and ceiling-suspended – where there is no suspended ceiling.
  • Wall-mounted – for smaller offices and separate rooms.

With several rooms, a multi-split system may be suitable – see the article Split or multi-split air conditioning: the differences and when to choose which.

Installation during operation

Installation can be planned to limit the running of the business as little as possible – for example in stages or outside working hours, if conditions allow. We agree on the date and procedure in advance.

Rented premises

In rented offices, the consent of the landlord or building manager is usually required before installation – mainly because of the location of the outdoor unit and openings through the facade.

Servicing for businesses

With intensive use, more frequent servicing and cleaning is recommended than in a household. Regular maintenance helps prevent breakdowns in summer, when the air conditioning is needed most. Read more on the Air conditioning service page.
