Air conditioning in a child’s room: what to consider

Air conditioning in a child’s room can help children sleep better on hot summer nights, especially in flats and attics that heat up during the day. With children, however, correct positioning, moderate settings and a clean unit are even more important.

Position: do not blow on the bed

Position the indoor unit so that the airflow does not point directly at the cot, bed or play area. Use the louvre settings to direct the air towards the ceiling – it will then mix more evenly in the room. You will find tips in the article Where to place an air conditioner: indoor and outdoor unit.

A moderate temperature

The aim is not to make the room cold, but to create a pleasant temperature for sleeping. Avoid a large difference between the outdoor and indoor temperature. You will find specific recommendations in the article The ideal air conditioner temperature: how to set it in summer.

Quiet operation

For a child’s room, choose a model with low noise and a night mode. Read more in the article A quiet air conditioner for the bedroom: how to choose and set it.

Clean filters and regular cleaning

Clean the filters according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and have the air conditioner professionally cleaned and disinfected once a year. A clean air conditioner does not blow dust into the room and does not smell. Read more on the Air conditioner cleaning and disinfection page.

Safety

  • keep the remote control out of the reach of small children,
  • do not leave a bed under the indoor unit from which a child could climb up to it,
  • the installation must be firm and the electrical connection professional.
