When choosing a Daikin heat pump for a family house, the main factors are the heat loss of the house, the type of heating system and hot water consumption. These determine the specific variant from the Daikin Altherma range and its output.
New build or renovation
- A new build with underfloor heating and good insulation – a low-temperature variant is suitable.
- An older house with radiators – a high-temperature variant or changes to the system may be needed. Read more in the article A heat pump for an old house with radiators.
Monobloc or split
With a monobloc, the main parts are in the outdoor unit and water pipes run into the house. With a split, the outdoor and indoor units are connected by refrigerant pipes. We describe the differences in the article Monobloc or split heat pump: the differences.
Water heating
Daikin Altherma indoor units are available with or without an integrated hot water tank. The choice depends on the number of people in the household, water consumption and the space in the plant room.
Output
The output is determined by the heat loss of the house, not by its floor area. An oversized unit loses efficiency, while an undersized one lacks heat in frost. Read more in the article What heat pump output do I need?.
Outdoor unit location
The outdoor unit needs free airflow, drainage for defrost water and a location that is considerate of the neighbours – Heat pump noise and the location of the outdoor unit.
Cooling in summer
If you also want cooling in summer, tell us during the design – not every system and heating circuit is suitable for cooling.

A quick overview of models
- Altherma 3 R F – low-temperature, floor-standing indoor unit with tank, hot water up to 60 °C.
- Altherma 3 R W – low-temperature, compact wall-mounted unit, tank optional.
- Altherma 3 M – monobloc with one outdoor unit.
- Altherma 3 H HT F – high-temperature, also suitable for radiators, hot water up to 65 °C.
- Altherma 4 H F and 4 H W – new high-temperature range, hot water up to 75 °C.
The data is from the manufacturer and may vary by variant. The comparison is only indicative; the suitable model is determined by the design for your house.
What to think about before choosing
- Do you have room for a floor-standing unit, or do you need a smaller wall-mounted one?
- How many people live in the house and how much hot water do you use?
- Where can the outdoor unit stand with regard to the neighbours?
- Are you planning to apply for a subsidy? Before ordering we will check whether the unit is on the official list.
Procedure
- We gather data about the house – the project, energy performance certificate, current heating.
- We propose a Daikin Altherma variant, output and positions for the units.
- We prepare a quote with the scope of work.
- We install, set up the controls and commission the system.
We work in Bratislava and the Bratislava Region. You will find selected models in the heat pump catalogue and the conditions of the state contribution on the Subsidies page. Request a free quote or see Daikin heat pumps.
