The service life of a heat pump depends on correct design, the quality of installation, the settings and regular maintenance. A well-designed and maintained heat pump can serve reliably for many years. A badly designed unit with frequent compressor starts wears out faster.
What shortens service life
- oversized output – frequent switching of the compressor on and off (What heat pump output do I need?),
- unsuitable hydraulics – a small water volume, closed circuits (A buffer tank for a heat pump: when it is needed),
- poor water quality in the system – dirt and deposits,
- neglected maintenance – a clogged outdoor unit heat exchanger, low system pressure,
- unsuitable location – being buried in snow, defrost water running in.
What extends service life
- Designing the output according to the heat loss.
- Flushing the old system and fitting a filter when connecting to old pipework.
- Correct control settings – Weather-compensated heat pump control: how to set the heating curve.
- Regular servicing – Heat pump servicing: what it includes and how often.
- A clear area around the outdoor unit and correct condensate drainage.
- A quick response to error messages.
Warranty
The warranty conditions are set by the manufacturer and may be linked to regular servicing. We will explain them at handover.
