Heat pump servicing: what it includes and how often

A heat pump is a long-term investment, and regular servicing helps keep it running reliably and economically. The recommended service interval is set by the manufacturer – with normal operation, a service inspection is generally done once a year, ideally before the heating season.

What a technician checks during a service

• the outdoor unit – a clean heat exchanger and fan, free airflow,
• the drainage of water from defrosting,
• the pressure and condition of the heating system, filters and venting,
• operating values and the correct function of heating and water heating,
• the control settings and heating curve,
• the electrical connection and error messages in the control unit’s memory.

What you can do yourself

• keep the area around the outdoor unit clear – free of leaves, snow and objects,
• monitor the water pressure in the system according to the instructions,
• notice error messages and unusual noises,
• do not change settings you do not understand – badly set controls increase consumption.

What to do if there is a fault

1. Note down the error code from the display or app.
2. Check whether the circuit breaker has tripped and whether the outdoor unit is blocked.
3. Do not interfere with the refrigerant circuit.
4. Contact the service and describe what is happening.

Correct settings save energy

When to book a service

It is best to book an inspection before the heating season, so that any problem can be solved before winter comes. Do not put it off if you notice higher consumption, uneven heating, the supplementary heater switching on more often or unusual noises.

Warranty and obligations

The warranty conditions may require regular servicing, so check them in the warranty documents and keep records of inspections. Mandatory checks of the refrigerant circuit depend on the unit and the amount of refrigerant. If you received a subsidy, you must also comply with the programme conditions, including the minimum period of operation.

When the heating does not heat evenly
