A heat pump is an investment for many years, and mistakes when choosing show up every heating season – as higher bills, noise or a cold house. These are the most common ones.
1. Output based on the floor area of the house
The output should be determined by the heat loss, not by square metres or the output of the old boiler – What heat pump output do I need?.
2. Ignoring the water temperature
In an older house with radiators, what matters is the water temperature the house needs. Without this assessment, an unsuitable type may be chosen – A heat pump for an old house with radiators.
3. A badly chosen place for the outdoor unit
Under a bedroom window, in a narrow passage or where snow falls from the roof – Heat pump noise and the location of the outdoor unit.
4. Cooling not thought through
If you want cooling in summer, both the unit and the system must allow for it – Cooling with a heat pump: floor, fan coils or air conditioning.
5. Forgetting the electricity
The main breaker, supply and electricity tariff are dealt with too late – Heat pump electrical connection: breaker, supply and tariff.
6. Choosing on price alone
A cheaper quote without a design can mean unsuitable output, missing hydraulics or poor support after installation. Compare the scope of supply and work, not just the amount.
7. Not following the subsidy procedure
With state support, the programme procedure and the conditions for the unit must be followed – Heat pump subsidy 2026: the new Zelená domácnostiam II.
8. No service plan
Without regular maintenance, efficiency falls and the risk of faults rises – Heat pump servicing: what it includes and how often.
