In addition to heating, an air-to-water heat pump usually also provides hot water for the bathroom and kitchen. The water is heated in a tank, which is either integrated in the indoor unit or stands separately.
Integrated or separate tank
- Integrated – the indoor unit and tank form one unit; saves space and is simpler to install.
- Separate – more flexible with higher consumption or when using an existing tank.
The Daikin Altherma range offers indoor units with and without a tank.
What tank volume
The volume is chosen according to the number of people, whether you shower or bathe more, and how many outlets are used at the same time. A tank that is too small is not enough, while one that is too large is heated unnecessarily.
What temperature to set
The higher the water temperature in the tank, the more electricity the heat pump uses. The temperature should be sufficient for comfort, but not unnecessarily high. We will recommend the setting at commissioning.
Protection against legionella
Heat pumps have a function that briefly heats the tank to a higher temperature at set intervals. It serves to prevent legionella bacteria from multiplying in the water. Do not switch this function off without consultation.
When to heat
- schedule heating for the time before peak consumption,
- if you have photovoltaics, use the hours of greatest production – A heat pump and photovoltaics: why it is worth combining them,
- if you have a cheaper tariff at certain hours, adjust the heating to it – Heat pump electrical connection: breaker, supply and tariff.
